Jewellery Care Guide

Whilst it is true that diamonds are the hardest substance found in nature, it is crucial to remember that they are not immune to harm, therefore it's important to take good care of them.

Precious metals are hard-wearing, but can become scratched when worn, and susceptible to small nicks and dents.

Our jewellery care guide provides tips to help keep your Ilana Belsky piece looking its best and last for generations.

Cleaning your jewellery

Clean your jewellery at home by soaking in warm water with a few drops of washing up liquid. Use a soft toothbrush to gently clean around any areas where dirt might accumulate (often around the diamond settings), and then gently dry with a soft, lint-free cloth or kitchen roll. Leave to air dry for a while, and when it is completely dry polish with a jewellery cloth.

Even though home ultrasonic cleaning machines are becoming more popular, we do not recommend their usage. If used too frequently, it can loosen diamonds from their setting and may even damage the jewellery. Please read about our Lifetime Care and Servicing for our complimentary cleaning service.

Storing your jewellery

We recommend that when you are not wearing your Ilana Belsky piece, it is stored in the original jewellery box it came with.

If you intend to keep it in a larger jewellery box with other jewellery, we recommend that you ensure they are kept in separate compartments, so they do not make contact with any other jewellery items that might cause them damage.

When travelling, we recommend that each item is wrapped individually (including separating pairs of earrings) in tissue or a soft cloth to provide extra protection.

What to avoid when wearing your jewellery

We want you to get as much joy from wearing your Ilana Belsky piece as possible, however there are times we would recommend that you do not wear your jewellery. This is to minimise the risk of damage and to ensure the long-lasting beauty of your Ilana Belsky piece. We recommend the following:

  • Remove your jewellery before doing any activity such as exercise, sports, housework, lifting or carrying heavy objects, as they might get knocked or caught on something and result in damage or loss.
  • Similarly, we recommend you remove your jewellery for any activities where you might come into contact with chemicals, such as using swimming pools, jacuzzis or spas, and household cleaning products. Exposure to such chemicals over time may harm or damage the jewellery.
  • We also recommend that the jewellery be put on after applying cosmetics and perfume or styling hair with products, as these can also contain chemicals that affect your jewellery.
